OKOTOKS, AB (August 29, 2024) — The Okotoks Oilers announced Wednesday that the club has acquired the BCHL playing rights to forward Otto Hanson (Calgary, AB) from the Blackfalds Bulldogs in exchange for the BCHL playing rights to forward Thomas Matte (Calgary, AB).
“Otto is a skilled and versatile forward who improved as last season progressed,” Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis said Wednesday. “He’s a right-handed shot and a solid secondary scorer who we look forward to adding to our lineup.”
Hanson, 18, is an Edge School alumnus and a Western Michigan University commit who spent the last two full seasons with Blackfalds. The 2006-born forward, who stands 5’10”, collected six goals and 17 points in 56 games with Blackfalds during the 2023-24 regular season; he also skated in four BCHL playoff games with Blackfalds this past spring.
Matte, 19, is a 6’5″ left wing who skated in 33 games with the Oilers last season, collecting five goals and nine points. The former U18 AAA Calgary Flames forward also appeared in all 10 playoff contests with the Oilers this year, collecting an assist in Game 6 of the second round against Brooks.
