Oilers trade forward Hayden Fechner to Cowichan Valley

OKOTOKS, AB (July 24, 2024) — The Okotoks Oilers announced Wednesday that the club has traded the BCHL playing rights to forward Hayden Fechner (Edmonton, AB) to the Cowichan Valley Capitals in exchange for the BCHL playing rights to forward Ethan DeKay (London, ON).

“Hayden provided offence and versatility in our forward group last season and we wish him all the best in his new opportunity,” Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis said Wednesday. “We are excited to add Ethan to our organization as we enter our first full BCHL season.”

Fechner, 18, spent the 2023-24 season with the Oilers after being acquired from the Drayton Valley Thunder in September 2023. The 2005-born winger collected 14 goals and 24 points in 43 games with the Oilers in the regular season before adding two assists in nine playoff contests.

DeKay, 19, is a Michigan Tech University commit who split the 2023-24 season between Cowichan Valley and the NAHL’s Wisconsin Windigo. The 2004-born left wing racked up four goals and 11 points in 37 games over parts of two seasons with the Capitals.
